It is our experience that a positive attitude, mixed with a healthy amount of self discipline developed through regular practicing, and a good helping of close teamwork between student, parent and teacher, make a good recipe for success.

MUSIC THEORY & HISTORY

Youth and Adult lessons in the comfort of your home, in accordance with your schedule. Our programmes are specifically designed to accommodate each students needs and skill level. Our main genres are Classical, Jazz, Show music and Popular.

As music is one of the 'Performance Arts', our programmes are performance based, and we provide performance opportunities twice a year.

Clients can be prepared to take R.C.M. examinations, both practical and theory.

Instructors are dedicated to making learning music enjoyable.

Youth Piano

Ages 6 – 17, All skill levels, Home instruction.

Learning is goal driven and results oriented. Regular practicing is an integral part of the process.

All the aspects of music are studied – Repertoire playing, Technique, Sight reading, Ear training as well as performance strategies.

Time: 45 minutes, 1 hour , weekly.

Adult Piano

Ages 18+, All skill levels, Home instruction.

Learning is goal driven and results oriented. Regular practicing is an integral part of the process.

All the aspects of music are studied – Repertoire playing, Technique, Sight reading, Ear training as well as performance strategies.

Time: 45 minutes, 1 hour , weekly.

Various Instruments

Ages 6+

Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Violin and Viola Lessons are only offered at the beginning level.

Learning is goal driven and results oriented. Regular practicing is an integral part of the process.

Time: 45 minutes , 1 hour , weekly

Music Theory Classes

Theory, Harmony, History of Music and Composition lessons are offered from the beginner level to the advanced level.

Time: 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, weekly

Jennifer Armstrong

Owner, Music Director

Jennifer Armstrong was educated in England, studying music at Trinity College of Music for four years, followed by one year as a professional percussionist with the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden Orchestra. Since coming to Canada she has had an extensive musical career being a professional musician, composer and teacher/Head of Department at the High School level.

In 2003 she founded Musicsmith Academy – a very successful teaching and performance company.

Jennifer brings a wealth of experience to her work with young people; performance experience and 21 years teaching experience in the High School system and at U.T.S., where she taught music and conducted Concert Bands, Symphony Orchestras, Choirs and Jazz Choirs.

Jennifer currently composes, performs piano professionally and is the Timpanist for the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra.
